Our friend John Bottomley (1960-2011) was a Canadian songwriting treasure, dearly loved and missed by many. Back in the 1980’s, my band at the time, Conditioned Response, had the frequent privilege of sharing the stage with John and his brother Chris’ band Tulpa, as part of the storied Queen Street West music scene that spawned legendary bands like L’Etranger, Rheostatics, Vital Sines, Fifth Column, etc.

As a tribute to John’s memory, we recorded a version of one of his better known songs, ‘Long Way To Go’, with Chris as very special guest on bass. The song video is not only a memorial tribute to John, but also a way to raise awareness of and funds for CASP (Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention). On May 8, 2019, a unanimous vote in Parliament passed Member Motion M-174 sponsored by NDP MP for Timmins-James Bay, Charlie Angus, which called for a National suicide prevention action plan.
